I have downloaded Google Earth 3 times and I have unclicked every option it has to make sure that isn`t the problem but for some reason the planet has these white pixel rings around the outside and large pixel rings circling around it horizontally. It won`t go away until I pan almost all the way in.My video graphics card is fine, everything else I use on my laptop is perfect quality.Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it?
Yep,it`s crapy vista.I need new drivers.Read about other folks having the same problem just now.

installing ubuntu linux on laptop partition hard made my hard drive disappear?

Filed Under (Software) by jepes on 19-02-2012

patdog asking this at February 19, 2012 – 21:13 pm

i ahve an ASUS laptop ( originally with 64-bit win 7 home, now 64-bit win7 pro )
had a recovery partition and main partition ( with boom, system files, etc.. )
dynamic disc ( in case that matters )

after testing ubuntu from my flash drive i decided to shrink my dynamic disc volume by 200gb and put ubuntu on that
i used the ubuntu on my flash drive to section off 195gb for linux and 5gb for swap files and did the installation
i restarted my comptuer and shit hit the fan
i can no longer boot windows ( it begins to boot but them flashes for maybe a quarter a second what appears to be a memory error, all i can make out is white text on a blue background, and shuts off )
i can no longer boot to my ubuntu flash drive ( in case the installation messed it up i`m currently redownloading ubuntu and i`m gonna redo the flash drive and try again )

the win 7 pro install cd i have boots from the cd drive just fine, excpect when i attempt to recover, memory test, restore, or anything else it acts as if the harddrive dosen`t exist
all attempts at using the recovery tool when i choose not to start windows normally
and the recovery tool on the cd have the same result, it is as if the harddrive isn`t there
it asks me for a driver for my harddrive, which i don`t have, nor does the ASUS website provide ( it`s laptop harddrive, i mean, c`mon )

my BIOS allthroughout this recognizes my harddrive just A-O.K.
left with no options and a vaugly similar story i found trying to search my problem ( ultimately to no avail as alas here i am ) led me to phyisically removing and reinserting my battery and harddrive from my laptop, in hopes my computer will miracuously recognize it

it didnt -.-

so here i am, without windows, without linux, in the middle of using a 500kb/s connection to downlown linux ( gonna take hours )
so that HOPEFULLY i MIGHT be able to at least have a working laptop, irregaurdless of salvaging my old data ( which would be nice, but not absolutely neccessary )

if anyone, has any information that can help me, please do share, because i am SOL as of this point

nothing i know about the workings of computers has helped me in what the problem is

p.s. i did not change the windows 7 boot records prior to the attempt at the ubuntu installation, from what i know i thought this would make windows boot normally, acting as if linux haden`t been installed, untill i specified otherwise

please consider all possibilities for linux installation errors on my part ( i feel like my specifying where and how to install ubuntu is what got me into this mess )

thank you

Your problem is because you messed up your partition, especially that it`s a dynamic volume. That`s your biggest mistake. Can you do a system reset to factory defaults by pressing F9 the moment you turn the computer on? That will restore your Windows 7 Home Premium edition.

If not, you need to boot a Windows 7 Pro installer DVD, delete the partition and recreate it before you can install a fresh copy of the OS. It`s going to be a long process as you also want to have Ubuntu.

If you need further help, you may send me an email.

How do you pull up gpedit.msc on Windows 7?

Filed Under (Security) by jepes on 19-02-2012

asking this at February 19, 2012 – 20:40 pm

I want to pull up my group policy through cmd.exe to edit some security stuff on my laptop but the command doesn`t work and I can`t seem to find anything else that works. Did Microsoft remove that capability from Win 7? If not then how do I get to it?
Eric, reread my question again. I`ve already tried gpedit.msc and that doesn`t work. You`re basically telling me to do what I`ve already done. I already have the answer anyway through Venus. Thx Venus.

Windows Movie Maker Help [Saving movie to computer]?

Filed Under (Software) by jepes on 19-02-2012

asking this at February 19, 2012 – 19:37 pm

Ok so Im trying to save this video edit I made on Windows Movie Maker, and it said “windows movie maker can`t save that movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and there is enough free disk space available, and then try again.”
I click on “Save to computer”
A window pops up and I click next.
Then it says:
Display size: 720×480 pixels
Aspect ratio: 4:3
Frames per second: 30
Estimated space required: 17.85mb
Estimated disk space available on drive: 92.28gb

So I have enough space. I checked in the folder to make sure the video I used was still there, and its the same folder I want to save it in. So both are available. I don`t get it.
Can someone help me? If you need to know the RAM/specs, let me know.
Im using windows movie maker 2.6
The video is 0:02:37.27 long.
The size of the video I used is W1280xH720

Umais, February 19, 2012 – 19:47 pm (5 Stars)

Well have you made sure as the pop up suggests that the original files that you have included in you windows movie project are in the same place? For example lets say you used a video file called “Stephanie” on your desktop you added it into the WMM project but then but while you was still editing the project you decided to move “Stephanie” from your desktop to your video`s folder or some other location. If this is the case then you must move the files back to their original location or you will not be able to save the WMM project.

Another thing you can try I guess is to copy all the files in your project open up another Windows Movie Maker and paste it all in there and try saving again. WMM has allot of saving error`s :L

You computer seems fine it has enough space to handle you video as its saying it will take up aprox 17.8MB on your computer and you have over 92GB space remaining. Good Luck.

It`s possible. You can download games and crack it down. But I wouldn`t encourage you to do so because it`s piracy. And it`s illegal and it`s bad.

Best free computer protection?

Filed Under (Security) by jepes on 19-02-2012

pinkcow6661 asking this at February 19, 2012 – 17:16 pm

Hi, I just got a new laptop. It came with NIS 2011 for 60 days but it`s going to run out within a week. Staples had a deal that was Norton 360 v5 for $20, but I was looking for free alternatives.

Browsing around the Internet I was thinking about using a combo of avira and malwarebytes. Any other suggestions for free computer protection combinations? Not just an antivirus. Thanks.

Chosen Answer:

T J, February 19, 2012 – 19:56 pm (5 Stars)

As you may have noticed from the many answers, what`s best is a matter of personal preference. I`d say just do your research, read some articles that compare antivirus programs` features and decide what`s important to you. Here is an article I could recommend – http://www.auslogics.com/en/articles/what-is-the-best-antivirus-software-2012/
I personally use Auslogics Antivirus and am pretty happy with it. I got it for its small size and being light on resources, which is important for my older computer that doesn`t have the highest specs. I also use Malwarebytes in addition to the antivirus, which is a great program to catch what AV software may miss.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
